Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with India Morse, Fitness Coach & Content Creator of You Lean Me Up, located in London, England, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

You Lean Me Up / Coaching by India. My customers are the clients of joining a home/gym-based programme and working with fitness brands.

Tell us about yourself

I'm India. I am Deaf Personal Trainer who breaks barriers every day in the fitness industry for better accessibility as I am using British Sign Language to communicate. I first started to get into fitness due to being heartbroken, so I went to the gym to focus on myself. However, it turns out the lack of accessibility in fitness, so I've stepped up to make a difference because it impacts a lot on confidence for people who, like me, struggle to fit in the fitness classes due to poor communication, lightening, and accessibility, so it motivates me to get up every day to make a bit of difference when it is quite a long way to go.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Working with The Body Coach - Joe Wicks, to provide accessibility with voiceover and captions of my workouts on the Body Coach app.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

When it comes to budget, a lot of deaf clients wouldn't be able to afford personal trainer sessions, so their mental health has increased rapidly over the years with suicide because deaf people don't receive enough support, which makes it harder as I want to help as much as I can for the deaf community.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't worry if you don't have anything much to start with, as long as you are passionate about what you do!
  2. Be consistent, be patient, and don't give up if it's a long way ahead of your dream.
  3. Accessibility should be your number one priority in any business before it launches, as not all disabilities are visible.
