Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carrie Bailey, co-founder of ZENDEN, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I opened Canada's first drop-in sound bath and reiki studio and also owned an app called everything spiritual. Our customers are from Vancouver and all over the world. They come to us for healing, relaxation, stress reduction, and many other reasons to seek inner peace transformation and help them manifest a life they've always desired.

Tell us about yourself

I was first introduced to reiki healing when I was a few weeks sober, and if it wasn't for that reiki healing, I would not be where I am right now. It helped open my eyes to the damage I was causing to my life. It was the first time that it clicked for me that I needed to get sober. I attended reiki sessions with this healer once a week for a few weeks, but I couldn't afford it living in Vancouver, and honestly, who can afford over a hundred dollar private sessions once a week long term anyways? Once I stopped the sessions, I fell back into drinking. It wasn't until eight months later, when I quit drinking, that I felt pulled to become a reiki healer and heal myself. That's where I was introduced to sound healing, and I knew I was meant to create a studio that was a drop-in style healing center. Everyone thought I was crazy because nothing of that sort existed, but now over five years of being opened, we have built an amazing community and have helped transform thousands of people's lives!

What motivates me is how I know firsthand how incredibly transformative these healing modalities are, and I want everyone to have the same opportunity of healing and transforming a low point in their lives to reach their own level of greatness. This is what these modalities can do for you, and it makes me so happy every day to see my clients undergo a major transformation!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping transform the lives of so many people! I'm so happy every day for helping create these magnificent shifts in so many people's lives.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is tackling it all and having to do so many things at once all the time. I like to try to take care of something myself first before having to hire someone to do it. It's been amazing to keep costs down, but sometimes it can become stressful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, follow your intuition if you feel super drawn to something and excited about it! Go for it. Let go of limiting beliefs standing in your way and negative self-talk with the hundreds of 1:1 reiki and psychic sessions I've done with clients. A big thing I always experience is their limiting beliefs blocking them from getting their business going or taking it to the next level. Also, when one thing isn't working, I recommend pivoting and trying something new until it does work. So many people fail when they just give up when it stops working instead of trying to evolve or incorporate a new system. We tried a bunch of different classes and ways of operating in the beginning until it clicked, and we got into a flow that worked!
