Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rhonda Glynn, Founder of Zoma Business Solutions, located in Trincity, Tunapuna-Piarco, Trinidad and Tobago.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a business strategist who works primarily with female entrepreneurs and start-ups.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business in 2018, working on it part-time while I was still employed. I made the leap into full-time entrepreneurship in 2021, when I took early retirement. I love what I do, partly because I'm very much like the women I serve. I went back to school at 40, and by the time I was 50, I had three degrees - all the while studying and working. As a late-stage business owner, I understand how many challenges women face - lack of support, fear and overthinking, and of course, the dreaded "Imposter Syndrome." I see myself as the "Badass Auntie" who's going to help them build successful businesses using strategy and process but, most of all, help them to build a legacy they'll pass on to their children.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my proudest moments is helping a client secure a $250k grant within the first few months of opening my company. It gave me the confidence that I was where I needed to be.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

A female business owner learns really quickly that access to financing isn't skewed in their favor - women in business are still seen as hobbyists, which is ironic since, in most societies, it's the women who manage the finances in their homes. Thankfully, this is starting to change.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know who you're planning to serve. Do the research.
  2. Get clear on why you want to serve them. What's your unique selling position?
  3. Give them a reason to care - because they don't have to.
