Helping People Become More Physically Capable - ZP Performance

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zach Posey, Founder of ZP Performance, located in Murfreesboro, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women learn, understand and implement strategies that make sense for their goals, lives, and schedules. My coaching involves working a lot on shifts in mindset and thoughts related to what fitness really is helping them achieve, how to incorporate it into their lives, and, for example, understanding reality vs. social media and understanding on a very deep level what it is that they really want to achieve (and why it matters to them). We do this through in-person and remote coaching and consulting (fitness, nutrition, and most importantly: mindset). My customers are women (the majority are moms) who want to feel more confident with how they look and feel.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in the fitness industry for 13 years. I have always really enjoyed helping people, and it motivates me to want to be better as well. I learn just as much from my clients on a human level as they learn from me. This is really motivating and meaningful to me and gives me a high level of impact and meaning each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I guess I would have to say that my business continues to grow and that my level of impact continues to grow. It's so cool.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Doing a lot of behind-the-scenes tasks, doing the daily tasks that matter, and contributing to each client's experience. It's a good challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand that it's not going to be easy, but if you have a real reason and desire, commit to playing the long game, and you'll be successful.
  2. Give - give - give. Go above and beyond for the people who support you. Show them that you care every single day, even when it's tough.
  3. Be a human with your clients. Don't just think of everything as money and money-driven. Connect with your clients on a human level, and your levels of retention and future referrals will be amazing. Make your clients feel understood and cared about.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Running your own business is fun. You can do it forever if you commit and understand that you're playing the long game. You learn and grow so much along the way, not only as a business owner but as a human, which is very powerful.
