Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with April Young, woman behind 10-4 Communications, located in Canby, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a communication coach specializing in communication skills and mindset training for women entrepreneurs so they can define their voice, build confidence in their ability to use that voice, and break through the limiting beliefs that hold them back from using their voice to create change!

Tell us about yourself

I have worked in customer-facing roles for the last 24 years. Regardless of the industry, I noticed that communication was the one aspect that could lead to (or prevent) epic success. I have always been a good communicator and wanted to share that ability with other entrepreneurs so they can be confident in their communication and successful in their businesses.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping other women to grow their success through the training I give them. There is no better reward than watching someone grow into a better version of themselves.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about owning a business is knowing that everything rests on your shoulders. It's challenging to be in charge of everything but also rewarding when all of those things work the way they are supposed to!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't wait. Don't wait until you think you are ready or you learn just one more thing. Just get started. You won't be perfect right out of the gate, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to accomplish amazing things. Be a work in progress and move forward one step at a time.
  2. Invest in a coach or mentor as soon as you can afford it. Having someone to help you develop your business, plan out your steps to reaching your goals, and then celebrate with you when you reach them is priceless. Investing in coaching is an investment in yourself.
  3. Don't get caught up in the minutia of running your business. You don't need to stress about every little detail, and have all the latest tech. You can get started with a simple landing page and your smartphone. Don't overthink it.
