Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jay Mack, Owner of A New You Fitness Camp, located in Sterling Heights, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I operate a fitness and nutrition company to guide individuals to a healthier lifestyle through proper nutrition and exercise.

Tell us about yourself

The drive within myself motivated me to step into the health and wellness field to help others live their best life. I work with individuals ranging from the age of 10 to the mid-80s. Whether it is athletic, strength and conditioning, mobility, HIIT, etc., I encourage my Warriors (my nickname for my clients) to push to their limits to meet their goals. I believe we are born with a gift to help others. I am passionate about fitness; therefore, seeing a WARRIOR meet and reach their goals makes my heart smile. With my guidance and assistance, my WARRIORS keep pushing themselves to the max. My motto is "If you are not believing, you are not achieving."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is when my WARRIORS are winning!! If one of my WARRIORS fell, I feel I have fallen. Anyone that I work with knows that we are in this together.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Keeping a steady flow of clients for most cases. In the health and wellness field, we have off and on peak season. The hardest thing to overcome is keeping a steady flow of clients during the off-season.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and the product/services you have to offer. If you have doubts, then why promote or sell it?
  2. Pack your patience; nothing comes worth having overnight.
  3. Please be financially responsible, and keep track of all transactions, debits, and credits. Be involved in the operations of your business.
