What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide acupuncture and herbal therapy for people in my community who haven't benefited from conventional treatment options.

Tell us about yourself

I first got interested in acupuncture and Chinese medicine in 1996. A friend had problems with irritable bowel syndrome. She exhausted her conventional treatment options and tried acupuncture out of desperation. I was impressed with the quick results as she started to feel better after her very first treatment.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been able to figure out how to deliver my services to more people at once. This has allowed me to make more profit while charging my patients a more affordable treatment option.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a practitioner/owner, the hardest thing is to keep time just to focus on the business. It is easy to focus just on clinical time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find people that you trust and take their advice.
  2. When you come up with a new idea, ask yourself: is this good and helpful for my customer? Is this good for the business and profitable? Is this possible?
  3. Have a clear direction of what you want to achieve this week, this month, this quarter, this year, and in the longer term. If you don't know where you're headed, you'll never get there.
