What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are an estate planning and probate law firm. Our clients are both individuals and families looking to protect themselves, build a legacy, lower taxes, avoid probate, and make sure their assets go to the right people. We also help people who have lost loved ones transfer their assets quickly and efficiently through the probate process.
Tell us about yourself
I've been a licensed attorney for 18 years and a law firm owner for 14. I got into estate planning and probate after tiring of litigation and wanting to serve people that are not in crisis. I also have three kids, and after the birth of my first child, the importance of estate planning became clear. The reason I started my law firm in the first place was to show the world that it is possible to get great service when in need of legal help. I'm building a team that is excited to help our clients, works hard, is communicative, and takes pride in what they do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Proving it's possible to have a profitable flat-fee law firm that doesn't require 100 hours of work per week, provides tremendous service and value to clients, and employs people who take pride in the work they do. It's been fun and rewarding.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Overcoming each plateau you reach along the journey. Just when you think you have it all figured out, there's another level to things. It's hard and fulfilling all at the same time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Pick one thing and stick to it - become great at it.
- Figure out how to get clients before you do anything else.
- Build systems to provide a consistent client experience and clear expectations for your team.
