Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mynesha Spencer, Founder and Principal Inclusion Strategist of All of Us Together Co., located in the USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

All of Us Together Co. is a full-service HR firm that offers premier solutions to premier companies that have people challenges. Our customers include corporations of all kinds, small and large nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and local, state, and federal government entities.

Tell us about yourself

Human relations have always been of interest to me. I recall working at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site early on in my professional career as the equivalent to a "DEI practitioner" today. The Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site is a national museum dedicated to commemorating the 1954 Supreme Court decision to integrate public schools across America. Of course, before this ruling, students' skin color determined what school they could attend and often dictated what-if any- resources and learning materials would be available to them. It was there at the national historic site that I was reminded of America's reality: that laws and policies may change. Structures and systems may change. But people's hearts and minds don't always. So the work that we aim to yield at our HR firm is to truly transform the hearts and minds of leaders and people of all kinds in all spaces... and we believe wholeheartedly that it will take all of us together. We do this by facilitating mediation, and professional development training, often rooted in bias management, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility competencies, and by driving strategy to ensure that every workplace is the most inclusive version of itself that it can possibly be. What sets us apart from others who may be in this line of work is that we likewise deliver on metrics. Because we know that no company can manage what it does not measure! We stay motivated because we know our work advances human harmony across professions- across the world!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Perhaps not the biggest, but our most recent accomplishment as a business owner was being named the 2023 Greater Omaha Chamber's Diversity Equity Inclusion and Accessibility ChangeMaker Champion of the Year. This accomplishment comes after having a presence in the greater Omaha area for only 14 months. We are both humbled and proud.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I would say the biggest difficulty associated with owning an HR firm that specializes in diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility competencies and strategies is the reality that the masses are either uneducated or miseducated about the work we are responsible for producing. Unfortunately, many professionals (and people in general) believe that DEI practitioners and Inclusion Strategists are activists. While many practitioners may share a similar passion for any one or several causes, it takes a lot more than passion to do this work well, and it takes a lot more than passion to sustain this work and to drive results, too.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know that no one has to see your vision, but you!
  2. Whatever it is that you do, do it well. What you don't do well - don't do at all.
  3. Motivation will not carry you every day- you must develop discipline.
