Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anthony Bandiero, Owner and Senior Instructor of Blue to Gold Law Enforcement Training, located in Spokane, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Blue to Gold Law Enforcement Training was developed around the concept that expensive legal mistakes can be avoided by offering relevant, high-energy training that is relatable to every street officer. The majority of legal training is taught by instructors who often do not have law enforcement experience, and this inhibits their ability to translate vital doctrines into ways that cops "just get it." As a result, officers become more confused and uncertain about their legal decisions and return to the business-as-usual method.

Our classes are engaging and acclaimed for providing real-world tools for Police and Law Enforcement Officers to remain safe and successful in the line of duty. Our lead Instructor, Anthony Bandiero, J.D., and former LEO, is a recognized expert in search and seizure subject matter by the Department of Justice. Our premier full-day courses are IADLEST approved and count toward most states' CLE requirements.

Tell us about yourself

I am a retired Nevada peace officer who has been studying the Fourth Amendment since 1999. I', also the author of multiple best-selling publications that support the Blue to Gold mission to be the best and most reliable source of legal information available. Additionally, I have personally trained over 30,000 police officers around the country. My motivation is to help support constitutional policing. This means that officers have the tools to fight crime, but these tools are utilized in a constitutionally defensible manner.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Growing my business during the pandemic. Many other "in-person" instructors shrank during this period. We grew because we quickly embraced online training.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Frankly, the massive burden of government regulations and paperwork requirements. This includes various employee regulations and state requirements. Most laws are well-intentioned. But all laws have numerous unintended consequences that hurt small businesses.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Work harder than anyone else.
  2. Embrace challenges as an opportunity to outsmart the other guy.
  3. Put profits back into the business to keep it on the cutting edge.
