What's your business, and who are your customers?
BarSculpt is a small Barre & Pilates Studio that caters to clients who want to be seen during their workouts. Each individual is guided into an optimal form for each exercise to create better movement in and outside of the studio.
Tell us about yourself
I started teaching barre right out of college; at the time, I had no idea it would be my life work. Pilates came after and taught me anatomy. Blending the two is when I discovered my love and enjoyment in the mystery of the body. How movement patterns are not universal, and our bodies find unique ways to cheat.. which makes finding optimal working form forever fascinating is it is different from human to human.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Truthfully. Not giving up. I am proud of myself and my best friend and former business partner for amicably splitting the business. But truthfully, my relationship with my trademark (brand) and its longevity is my biggest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is the lack of stability. My paycheck doesn't come in on vacations or holidays as steadily as a corporate job. I have gone years without health insurance, and I can never clock out.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Only do it if you love it.
- Pay yourself first.
- HOW you market is far less important than WHAT you market.
