Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alex Brzozowski, CEO of Be Organizing, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Be Organizing is a company of professional digital organizers and productivity specialists. Our goal is to help people free up time to do what they love by bringing order and efficiency to their digital life. We specialize in personal and business digital organizing services, including computer files, photos, email, notes, digital document management, passwords, contacts, calendar, and more! We serve the entire US and are headquartered in San Diego, CA.

Our team of Professional Digital Organizers and Productivity Specialists work with individuals and businesses remotely all over the US and the world to create the processes, systems, and structures they need to reduce stress, save time, and have the peace of mind of knowing exactly where their files, data, records, photos, emails, tasks, projects, notes, schedules, calendars, passwords, and apps are (and how to access them quickly!).

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in the Detroit area and attended Butler University in Indianapolis. At that time, I thought I wanted to work in the legal world, so I studied Sociology & Criminology and interned with the Prosecutor's Office during college. After I graduated, I moved to San Diego right away to start my career at a law firm. While working as a paralegal at two different paperless law firms, I saw many clients coming to meetings not only unprepared...but missing the highly personal, sensitive, and confidential paperwork they needed to proceed. In many cases, clients didn't even know where their documents were located or where to begin to find them. A lot of my work was piecing things together and organizing information and documents. After years of watching clients struggle with the same organizational issues, many pivots, and a complete business model overhaul...Be Organizing was born in 2012!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Growing the team and setting up the systems and processes so the business can run without me having to take on all the roles. I stopped myself from hiring for so long because I thought that I must max out my time and energy and, therefore, produce more income before I could justify hiring someone. Getting past this hurdle has paid off in so many ways. I now have the team, business, and life I want.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The uncertainty and consistent risk-taking. Yes, you can gather data and analysis to make the best decisions, but you must have a strong sense of faith in yourself, your team, your clients, and what you built that it will all work out, and the business will strive.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Delegate: Most of us start a business because we want freedom and flexibility. However, to get that and grow your business, you must delegate.
  2. Schedule time for self-care: It's so easy to burn yourself out with everything that you want, need, or could get done. You must prioritize your time for yourself first, which allows rest, creativity, and time to let things flow. We want the business to consistently succeed so much that we think we have to work really hard to get it. This is never the case.
  3. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable in order to grow.
