Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in career development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Clarisa Romero, Founder of Career Satisfaction Academy, located in Cranbury, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the Founder of the Career Satisfaction Academy, where I help professional women finally have the careers of their dreams. Once plagued by unfulfillment and lack of clarity at my job, I am now passionate about empowering women to cultivate the emotional intelligence required to demand the space they need to grow in their careers.

I combine psychology and holistic approaches to help them develop a career satisfaction roadmap for them to achieve laser-focused clarity on the next chapter of their lives.

Tell us about yourself

I spent eight years of complete misery stuck in a rut trying to figure out what should be the next chapter in my career. I used to spend all my time and energy trying to figure out how to find a way to stop dreading going to work. Every morning I struggled to get out of bed and go into the office, where I felt unappreciated and did not fit in. I was tired of feeling unappreciated and feeling like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole at the office.

I felt it was too late to start something new in my life. I felt stuck and lacked clarity on what was next. Hoping to overcome my exhaustion and burnout, I started a self-help quest to get career clarity. This led to the creation of the Career Satisfaction Academy, where I have the fortune of working with women teaching them how to stop playing small, empower themselves, and learn how to be resilient.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being a two-time best-selling author of The Fearless Entrepreneur and El Emprendedor Intrépido. The journey I share in my books has allowed me to work with women all over the globe, getting career satisfaction! I am very humbled and proud that I was even nominated and selected to be the brand ambassador for a global platform focused on women’s empowerment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things and most overlooked is learning how to prioritize your attention, time, and resources. I was always busy but would not make progress toward my goals. I felt I was always spinning my wheels and feeling fatigued and burnout. Once I started being more intentional with my time and attention, I was able to focus on what was truly a priority and what gave me joy. I learned how to make sure I was making the time to have a work-life balance. So much so that I was able to transition and build a career that made sense where I help other professional women do the same.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be willing to invest in yourself with time and the resources that will get you to the next level. This was one of my key takeaways when I hired my first coach to help me get unstuck and make six figures.
  2. Be quick to take action. There is a difference between knowledge and actually implanting knowledge. Time and time again, I see this where someone is constantly signing up for webinars, reading books, etc., and yet they do not apply what they learn. When you take quick action, it leads to transformation.
  3. Step out of your comfort zone. Learning to manage emotions especially fear, is critical. Fear is a silent killer of goals and dreams.
