Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katherine Willow, Owner of Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre, located in Carp, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is really a calling, a 190 healing center near Ottawa, Canada, where we offer an integrated natural health clinic, a holistic bed and breakfast, and many programs and retreats. It's the Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre, and we are in our 25th year!

Tell us about yourself

My background is being a 4th generation naturopathic doctor since 1983, so almost 40 years. I eat, live and breathe natural medicine and am continuously learning how to integrate new discoveries.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We saved our provincial health insurance (OHIP) over 2 million dollars in cancer therapies that were no longer needed as our patients went into remission after pursuing mind-body therapies.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest in the healing business is gracefully accepting the reality that we can't help everyone.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. One, talk to people who are doing what you want to do and listen to their advice.
  2. Two, work in a team to create your business plan.
  3. Three, slower is faster!
