Tell us about yourself

I'm April, the Original Ginger behind GingerGanics, and I've always been a redhead with ultra-sensitive skin. With over 15 years in the beauty industry, I've discovered that many skincare products are loaded with irritating ingredients for the sake of cost-cutting and shelf-life extension. I used to believe that "organic" and "all-natural" brands were the solution, but when I delved into their ingredient lists, I realized they weren't as transparent as I thought. That's when I decided to take matters into my own hands, formulating my own products with all-natural, organic ingredients and no irritating additives. My mission is for you to love your skin as well, giving it the care it deserves. Hear all about my entrepreneurial journey and my mission to support women entrepreneurs in my guest podcast episode.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I recently gave birth to my son - and somehow, balancing being a business owner and mom every day is my biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balancing everything that needs to be done for your business, from taxes to marketing to packaging and tracking, is a lot, and it can feel very lonely to be the sole person responsible for all of these things at once.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I worked in the beauty industry for more than 15 years and daydreamed of creating my own beauty brand for most of that time, but I never felt "ready." I definitely never had the funds to start a business, and I thought and felt "unprepared" to handle the business side of things. Even though I have seen many people start businesses from nothing, with limited knowledge of what they were getting into (I also watched many fail, so that definitely affected me), I felt paralyzed by some imaginary need to make sure that all conditions were perfect before I could start to move forward with creating my own business. It wasn't until I had worked to change everything about my entire life that I finally felt I had nothing to lose any longer, and if I hadn't tried to take the first steps at this point in my life, it might never have happened. So I took the first steps. And then I kept going. Today, I am still working each day on learning and doing more to grow and sustain this beautiful, clean beauty brand of mine.
