Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Catherine L. Taylor, Health and Wellness coach located in Citrus Heights, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a weight loss and emotional eating expert and coach. I help women break free from yo-yo dieting, make peace with food, and lose weight in a sustainable and permanent manner.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a coach for 20 years now. I decided to focus on food and weight issues because I'm a former binge eater and yo-yo dieter, and I knew this was an area in that I could make a real contribution. Being able to make a real difference in the lives of my clients and see them blossom is what keeps me motivated to do this work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is that I have stayed in business for the last 20 years doing something I love. This business is highly competitive, and many people come and go. I have worked with thousands of women over the years, and I've honed my skills to become a master coach. Women seek me out because of my reputation and expertise.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having to wear so many hats. Sometimes there just isn't enough time in the day to do all that's needed. I have learned to delegate many things, but it's not easy for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep your expectations realistic. Expect to pay your dues and have a long-range plan.
  2. Develop a growth mindset. You must embrace constant change. Keep learning so you can keep evolving!
  3. Get clear on what your strengths and weaknesses are. Spend time strengthening your weak areas or have someone else who can cover for you in those areas. Get clear on your priorities and delegate the tasks that keep you from them.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

All work, no play leads to burnout. Make sure you have an outlet or two that helps you release stress and takes your mind off your business and worries. I'm also a painter, and when I paint, nothing else exists! I've also become an online art instructor. You can view my art at catherineltaylor.com.
