Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Doug C. Brown, Founder of CEO Sales Strategies, located in Nashua, NH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is CEO Sales Strategies, and our customers are people who want to be in the top 1% of earners through selling. This can range from business owners, entrepreneurs, salespeople, and anyone who works in a field that involves sales.

Tell us about yourself

I've been working since the age of 3 when I was employed by my father's business while growing up. Through my experiences in my father's business, I learned that selling has the greatest monetary leverage. As I progressed throughout my career, I noticed that people, especially business owners and entrepreneurs, were held back by their own fears, which resulted from a lack of skill sets and processes in their pursuit of sales excellence. I wanted to help those who wanted to increase their sales while working smarter, not harder. What motivates me to continue doing what I do is helping people sell more than they ever thought they could. For me, this was my calling. When someone tells me that they have exceeded their goals and have improved their lives and the lives of others, this lights me up.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I helped a business owner who was struggling to increase their sales by 862%, and they became a forerunner in their industry. This has positively impacted hundreds of people working within the company, which has positively impacted legacies. To see the results of my efforts manifest into people helping other people is a great joy for me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Changing with change. If we fight inevitable change, then we create stress, which manifests into a scarcity mindset and influences the decisions we make on an everyday basis. Learning how to use change to make a positive impact is something that took me a while to master but has paid large dividends in my life and business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear on your short-term (first-year) outcomes. People will tell you to build longer plans, but the long game will change.
  2. It usually costs you 2-3x more than you figure, and it usually takes you 2-3x longer than you figure.
  3. Get help from experts from the beginning. Those who have been there, done that and can help you experience success sooner. This will help you reduce your cash burn rate, as getting help from people who are professionals will help you speed up the process to success.
