Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julia Cha, President of Cha Global Coaching, located in Vancouver, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a leadership, performance, and mindset coach for entrepreneurs and accomplished leaders in organizations.

Tell us about yourself

I first got started for selfish reasons. This is typical of most new entrepreneurs. As a single mom, I wanted time, freedom, and flexibility so I could be more present while raising my two young children. Lack of time flexibility when working for companies was the biggest challenge as a mother. I also wanted a career that fulfilled me.

In the beginning, starting my own business was all about my own needs. As I started to succeed, it became less about myself and more about my clients and the audience, and the impact I was making. I noticed how much helping my clients to become powerful in their leadership position, and helping my audience learn through my free content and books, was making this corner of the world a much better place.

With my entrepreneur clients, I'm creating companies that people actually love to work in. They are companies that make a positive impact on humanity. With my clients in mid to upper-management positions, I'm helping them become better leaders in their organizations. These individuals face sandwich pressure from upper management, as well as their subordinates.

Creating happy and healthy company cultures has the potential to transform this world that has been run mostly by toxic, unconscious leadership. What motivates me now is this we're going through a massive shift in human consciousness, and I'm here for it!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My clients are my reputation. One of my most notable case studies is my client, Eno Eka. She started out as a side-hustling entrepreneur while working a corporate job in business analysis. Three years later, she's now running a 7-figure Business Analysis School that trains people all over the world.

We are still working together, setting the right goals, staying focused, making the right expansion decisions, hiring the right people, and polishing the structure and processes. I project that Business Analysis School is a solid company built on a strong foundation that is here to stay forever, much like some of the top recognizable companies and brands in the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Decision-making. Your business success is dependent on you making mostly the right decisions, recognizing and managing the consequences, and moving away quickly from bad decisions.

As a business owner, all you do every moment of the day is make decisions, from prioritizations to allocating resources to creating structures and processes. You're surrounded by the noise of people giving you advice all the time. At all times, there are many temptations to take shortcuts, and there is no shortage of shiny object solutions that are luring you toward sabotage. You have to have the discernment to filter out the nonsense, make the right decisions, and stay focused in the midst of chaos. Being a great business owner versus being a mediocre business owner is a huge difference in results, but the stark difference in results is only a few wise decisions away.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in yourself and get help early on with your mindset and decision-making. Who you've been so far in life will not make the cut to succeed in this new venture.
  2. Your actions and focus have to fit your long-term business and lifestyle goals rather than short-term cash gains and relief.
  3. Take care of yourself and your personal life. Invest in this area at all times. There is no business anymore if you neglect your physical and mental health and relationships.

I have one more, if I may:

(Bonus) Work on your social elegance. Everyone has immature, trashy social habits and behaviors that will ultimately sabotage you from connecting, networking, and maintaining relationships with high-value individuals. The people you surround yourself with can make or break your success trajectory. Trashy, uncharismatic, scarcity-driven behaviors become your invisible glass ceiling. Invest in yourself to become socially sophisticated and elegant. This is the key to shattering the glass ceiling.
