Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Myrna Lapres, Founder of Coach Myrna, located in San Leandro, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a relationship and parent coach. My customers are individuals, couples, and parents who are looking to find greater connection, communication, understanding, and joy in their relationships. I am also an author self-published on Amazon, "7 Gifts to Give Your Children--Parenting That Will Touch Their Future."

Tell us about yourself

I was a teacher and educator for twenty-five years. I first became a coach in 2018 because I realized that as a teacher, parents need a lot of support in raising their children. I am passionate about helping parents, as well as couples and individuals, to find resources to nurture and heal themselves so they can truly thrive in their relationships and in life. As well as being a certified coach, I have actively looked for other tools to support my clients. I am a certified Emotion Code Practitioner, a trained Safe Conversation® workshop leader, and a Prepare-Enrich trained facilitator (premarital and married couples' support.) What motivates me to do this work every day is the changes that I see in myself and those I work with--to become happier, healthier, thriving individuals and families.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Publishing my book was more work than I ever imagined, but I feel proud of publishing it. I began by writing a weekly blog for two years and drew on that content to begin my book. I also find great joy in being able to personalize the coaching experience for each client, drawing on the many tools that I have in my coaching toolkit. I believe that a great coach works with the client to help them draw on their inner knowledge and wisdom and gives them the support and tools to work.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me was figuring out the next steps in building my business. What helped me was networking, learning to ask for help, and seeking out mentors.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Seek out networking opportunities.
  2. Find a mentor or coach.
  3. 3, Be willing to try different approaches, get feedback, and don't give up.
