Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brianna Rhue, CEO, and Co-Founder of Dr. Contact Lens, located in Plantation, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Dr. Contact Lens is a contact lens ordering and marketing platform that connects patients back to their doctors to order their contacts in a convenient fashion. We enable eye doctors and patients to build meaningful relationships with each other to keep patients' eye health front and center.

Tell us about yourself

I am an optometrist with a private practice and an entrepreneur. My co-founder Dr. Jennifer Tabiza and myself saw a need in the marketplace to not only connect with our patients on a deeper level but that a process that should be so simple as outdated and overbearing on both our patients and our staff members. What motivates me every day is my internal drive always to keep growing and changing. I live by the motto that change and comfort can not coexist, and I want patients and practices to understand the value that each other brings to one another.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting Dr. Contact Lens from the ground up and now seeing practices across the country see success through our platform.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I wear my heart on my sleeve and put a lot of trust in others which have burned me quite a few times during this process of starting and running a business. You also are going to waste half of your money, but it is unfortunate that you don't know which half you are going to waste. I will always bet on myself and will continue to do so, but it has not come without expensive mistakes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It is not for the faint of heart, so surround yourself with people that are going to push you to be better.
  2. Don't give up. There are going to be very down days, but always look back for the small wins and make sure to celebrate those along the way. They happen more frequently than you give yourself credit for.
  3. Hire a personal coach. Your family and friends do not and will not understand the pressure you are under when building a startup so learn who you can lean on to build confidence in yourself to persevere.
