Tell us about yourself

With my 25 years of marketing, advertising, and project management expertise, I have built a remarkable network of experts from every corner of the marketing communication field to help Meckler Marketing Consulting's clients grow their businesses. Prior to starting Meckler Marketing, I was a product marketing manager for a biometric software company, sold advertising for a local newspaper, and co-founded a full-service advertising agency that grew to around 30 full-time employees. I was also a partner in buying North Dakota's first video and audio production company. During my marketing career, I also got involved in real estate investing as a way to earn passive income.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making the decision to leave a good job and start a new business can be a big accomplishment to be able to get started as a business owner. After making that decision, there have been a lot of professional accomplishments that you may have had a hard time imagining prior to making the leap. There have been a lot of great accomplishments, from cool projects completed to hitting growth metrics for the business, but being able to help clients to reach their business goals while being your own boss provides a satisfying feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Sometimes it can be lonely as a business owner, whether that is because you are a solopreneur or because you are the boss and can't confide in your employees with all the challenges you may be experiencing in running the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

It is wise to first come up with a business plan to determine that you have a good idea for your business so that you know what you want to accomplish to help keep you on track at the beginning. Then once you feel confident that you have a good idea for your business, the next challenge is to take the leap of faith and launch your new business. After you start your business, you may need advice to help grow your business. Investing time to grow your network to make relationships with others that are also business owners or that may provide a skillset that you do not have is a great way to help learn how to grow your business and make some new friends. You can do this through networking groups or getting involved in your community organizations.
