Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Tamara Soles, Psychologist and Podcast Host based in Verdun, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a child psychologist and parent coach who founded a clinic in Montreal called The Secure Child Center for Families and Children. I also run online parenting courses as well as a continuing education podcast for therapists. I have two customer groups- one is parents who are struggling with finding effective strategies to navigate challenging behaviors, and the second is therapists looking for simple and enjoyable continuing education.

Tell us about yourself

My life has been shaped by the beautiful connections I made as a child and an adult. I have always wanted to be an advocate for children's mental health. My career has involved helping struggling families harness the power of connection to help children thrive. I have built my career around my own parenting values and have structured both a thriving online business and full practice such that I get to be home with my kids. Aligning my business with my family values is what keeps me motivated each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My greatest accomplishment is helping parents and children enjoy more peaceful connections, all while maintaining my connection with my own children.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner and a mother means that I'm juggling a lot of things at all times. Making sure that I am living a life I love, not just focusing on building a business, is always a balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Done is better than perfect. Just get started, and you can evolve as you go!
  2. When you can, your business will grow when you bring others on who can do things better than you (like building a new website), and you can focus on what you do best.
  3. Connect with business mentors who are just slightly further along in their journey than you are.
