Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Poet, Founder of Embodied Breath, located in Asheville, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a coach and consultant in the area of rebalancing feminine & masculine archetypes. In practical terms, I coach women entrepreneurs who are trying to integrate healthy feminine and masculine archetypes within themselves and their businesses, I help couples heal trauma using these two polarities, and I coach leaders in how to use masculine and feminine leadership to optimize effectiveness.

Tell us about yourself

I was a school principal and creator, and I honestly just followed my soul to what I'm doing now. It's been a big journey, but this path is so genuine to me. I have lived the integration of feminine and masculine, using it to overcome gender-related traumas, money pitfalls, and many subconscious blocks. I just genuinely want to teach and share it because I know the world needs it. Really, at the basis of personal feminine & masculine integration is the return to Unity Consciousness on the planet.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd say my biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been building this soul-preneur business as a single mother and just following my vision with the faith to see it through. When you are literally making up programs and curricula based on your intuition and putting yourself out there over and over again without giving up, it can be brutal and beautiful at the same time. "Brutiful!" I don't give up, and I love my clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Honestly, going it alone is hard, which is why I am focusing on building spaces of collaboration. It has also been difficult to ride the financial roller coaster - coaching or this kind of entrepreneurship is not guaranteed immediate success. I invested a lot of money into high-end coaching in the beginning, only to find out that it wasn't what I needed and that I wanted to be an approachable, heart-centered, affordable coach - not someone trying to build wealth at any expense. I've recently been trying out different pricing models that are more ethical. Doing things differently is fun, but it's hard, and it requires a lot of integrity.

Also, I think if you're going to start a business that has anything to do with your heart and soul, then you're going to have to learn your heart and soul lessons in order for the business to be successful. It's not just about checking the boxes; it's really much deeper, about traversing your own personal blocks and coming to a place of integration to find success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't hire a coach because of what they boast about. Hire a coach (because you will need mentors) who resonates with you. Meaning, go with your gut, not with the person with the most hype. Choose authentically.
  2. If you're experiencing money stress, there's no shame in taking the pressure off of your new creation and having another stream of income. I haven't done this, but I've experienced a lot of pressure, and I love it when I can help my clients learn from my mistakes! I love when women entrepreneurs are smart about their resources and don't put themselves into a place of depletion - energetically or financially.
  3. Just be authentic. The world is so full of people trying to hustle to get you to buy something - don't be one of them. Don't do this for the money, do it for the service. What are you truly giving to people? Be in touch with that, and the money will come.
