Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Suzie A., Founder of Empowerment Coach Suzie, located in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As an empowerment coach, I help clients take back their power. In particular, living a life led with love and gratitude in order to put them in the best frame of mind to attain their goals. My clients are those who have been frustrated by not reaching the goals they set out for themselves, namely singles, those looking to enhance their careers, and those wanting to live more fulfilled lives outside their comfort zones.

Tell us about yourself

Knowing I am helping others motivates and energizes me. My educational background in interpersonal communications and dialogue (B.A. & M.A.), including training in professional and life coaching, as well as my life experience, give me the basis I need to be able to help others. I started my career by helping businesses, and people market themselves better, then focused on singles but then, seeing that the core of each person's success lies in their empowerment, I transitioned to life empowerment coaching. I believe that a coach should be well-grounded and experienced in what they are coaching; as such, I am on a continuous path of learning and growing both cognitively and spiritually.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To me, accomplishment equates results. I feel most accomplished when I know that one of my clients reached their intended goal or even has embarked on their own path of growth as a result of what we worked on together. For example, my single clients that found love, my clients that finally reached the goal they were working towards, or my clients that found peace and contentment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most challenging thing for me as a business owner is clients who aren't committed to the process and who drop out when it gets hard or uncomfortable for them. This is why I am more selective with clients now and only take on those truly committed to every step.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be what you are selling. You need to embody and project your product or service in order to make what you are selling more enticing.
  2. Be authentically you. Being authentic and honest will go a long way when you are working with clients. They know what they see is what they get with no surprises.
  3. Know your worth and believe in it. Knowing what you have to offer and believing in yourself will make you more confident about who you are and what you are selling. Set your fair prices in advance and don't give discounts just to bring in more people. The right people will pay for a service they are going to work hard for.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Always be true to yourself. Do what you are passionate about because there will be days that will be challenging, and what will motivate you will be your passion for what you are doing. Every single thing is a lesson learned, so be grateful for each thing. Those lessons will help elevate you to reach your desired goals.
