Tell us about yourself
I started my marketing career at the gross roots level. Learning in the field working for a franchisee of Boston Pizza. I have a business partner, and we met working together in marketing, and it was her idea to work together. When she asked me to start a business, it was an easy yes! We’re a team of marketers with over 25 years of experience in Canada, both on the client and agency side. We met working on the Smoke’s Poutinerie brand, a brand all about entertainment through food. We build loyal fans with our creative marketing. And if there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s going above and beyond. My motivation is my lifestyle. Having a business allows me to own my time and choose to work with the best!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been hiring a full-time employee. It gives me so much satisfaction knowing we support someone else’s lifestyle by offering good pay, unlimited vacation time, and flexibility.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It’s challenging - managing the ebbs and flows of a business. There’s no way to predict the future, and there are many surprises when you own your own business. It’s important to go easy on yourself and really celebrate the good times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don’t cheap out and think you can do it all. Ask for help, hire help, and keep good people close.
- Social Media is important, but it’s not permanent so make sure you have multiple channels to keep your business alive when a social media platform goes dark.
- Lastly, take risks! Marketing is all about trial and error, and it’s OK to make mistakes. That’s how you learn what works for you and your business.
