What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a freelance content marketer and learning designer. I create online content and easy-to-navigate online learning experiences for adult learners. Typically I work with small businesses who need help creating content for their websites, blogs, presentations, instructor-led training, and more! Additionally, I teach online classes to help other creatives and marketing professionals to build their online brands.

Tell us about yourself

Back in 2015, I found myself often giving business advice to other people who were interested in launching an online creative business. After working with a few individuals one-on-one, I decided to create a few online courses to be able to help more people. During this time, content marketing was a huge part of my day job as a Marketing Manager. I recognized the power of writing and creating great content. This leads me to launch several blogs across different niches. As I built training to better serve the target audience of each blog, I also fell in love with learning design--the science behind HOW people learn. Today, I get to combine my love for content marketing and learning design as I work on a variety of different projects for my clients. Knowing that the educational content that I create has a deep and long-term impact on both the business and the learners/target audience is what fuels me and keeps me excited to work on new projects!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, I love to see the impact that my content creation has on helping businesses (and solopreneurs) to level up when it comes to content marketing and making connections with their audiences. One of my business accomplishments was launching a class called Become a Creativepreneur which has allowed me to serve more than 2,000 students over the last few years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

When it comes to running my business, there are always so many things to do and never enough time to do them. Learning how to hire and delegate some of the responsibilities in my business is hard, but I'm definitely getting better at it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you're looking to grow your own business, I believe most people already have existing creative talents that will help you find success. Do these three things:

  1. First, examine your current skills. What are some things you already know how to do from former work experiences?
  2. Next, analyze your strengths. What are the things you are really good at or things that other people say you are good at doing?
  3. Lastly, explore your interests. What is it that lights you up? No matter what your story, occupation, or your age, you have what it takes to take your CREATIVE TALENTS and turn them into a business.
