Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mikki Gaffen Stone, Founder of Gaffen Stone LLC., located in Trinidad, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Human Behavior expert, using Human Design as a foundation for coaching, blending behavior change science into an individualized path for people who are doing well, yet know they could be doing even better in some area of their life. Relationships, business, and personal development are all areas we work with. Working with Gaffen Stone is a customized experience unique to you. Regardless of whether you're looking for personal support, parenting support, or learning more about your human design, the way we work together will be designed to fit your specific circumstances. My clients feel supported and safe as they explore their human design blueprints to discover what is RIGHT about them. Hint: You are not designed to be 'wrong.' Ever.

Tell us about yourself

I have a background in behavioral science from both a sociology perspective and psychology. I have worked with people and their behaviors for years. But I consistently found traditional science alone did not provide all of the answers. Something fundamental was missing. Human Design came into my world at a crucial moment, proving to be a game changer. I learned what worked for me and what didn't in a powerful way that I could feel and experience for myself. Understanding how I am designed to function optimally in the world is priceless knowledge. I wanted to share this with others. Social conditioning often leaves us feeling as though we are 'less than others,' suffering from 'Impostor Syndrome' and a fear of other people's judgment. And you cannot rise above your opinion of yourself. We need to truly, deeply shift that self-judgment to self-love. I am lit up by seeing the changes that others can make. I know firsthand how powerful it can be!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am most proud of the changes in clients' lives that therapists and other methods have failed to achieve. I have been able to help a range of people and am proud of each and every one, from the despairing case of a teenager who was cutting himself and hiding from the world with crippling social anxiety to an 83-year-old woman who finally understood who and how she was. The teen was able to turn his life around and join his peers in social activities. Cutting is a thing of the past. That took just three months and was a gentle process. The older woman had lived her life in a shadow of fear and finally understood that she was perfect as she was and did not need to fear the opinion of others.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is knowing when to let someone else help out with the workload. It is so easy to want to do everything yourself!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Check carefully for your ideal client. Who are you talking to?
  2. Have a financial plan.
  3. Be flexible yet have strong boundaries. They are compatible and form a strong foundation for your business.
