Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Casey Meraz, Founder and CEO of Juris Digital, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business, Juris Digital, primarily focuses on legal marketing. We offer a variety of digital marketing services, from SEO consulting to website design, with an emphasis on ethics and transparency. Our customers are mostly lawyers and law firms searching for effective ways to increase their online visibility and captivate potential clients.

Tell us about yourself

My journey began working as a director of marketing for The Reeves Law Group in Los Angeles in 2009. Not long after, my entrepreneurial spirit spurred me to form Ethical SEO Consulting, which later became Juris Digital. Throughout my career, I've been driven by the belief that every person deserves access to top-tier legal representation. This fuels my daily motivation to elevate the online visibility of outstanding law firms and ensure they're found when people seek legal assistance.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There are many accomplishments I am proud of, but perhaps the most notable one is the evolution of my business. Transitioning from a one-client venture, Ethical SEO Consulting, into a thriving digital marketing company, Juris Digital, that serves various small businesses from different verticals. I am immensely proud of the sustainable and profitable enterprise we've cultivated, built on ethical practices and cutting-edge techniques.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the greatest challenges in business ownership is undoubtedly navigating the competitive nature of the industry. Building a successful business (especially one where the stakes are as high as law!) can feel like trekking through waist-deep mud. Clients are hard to find, every competitor seems to scream louder, and sometimes the whole thing just makes you want to crawl under your desk and take a nap.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on Your Niche: Trying to be an expert in everything means you're an expert in nothing. Pick your lane, then dominate it.
  2. Collaborate, Don't Compete: Partner with other experts, write guest posts and show up on podcasts… rising tides lift all boats.
  3. Consistency is Key: Don't disappear for months, then try to cram it all in. Show up regularly, even if it's just a small bit of valuable content.
