Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Keri Murphy, Founder of Inspired Living by Keri Murphy, located in Carlsbad, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Inspired Living specializes in teaching entrepreneurs how to be seen, be known, and be paid for their brilliance. We do this by teaching on-camera techniques and video strategy that allows them to stand out, be more visible and create more revenue in their business.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in front of a camera with great aspirations of becoming a national entertainment reporter. However, life had different plans for me. I became an entrepreneur at 23 years old. Unbeknown to me, I was always using video to grow my businesses using traditional media. I love developing and cultivating talent. As a past talent agency owner, I have a real passion for helping people bring their dreams to life. Over the last ten years, we've worked with thousands of purpose-driven entrepreneurs on growing and scaling their businesses through the power of video. I'm grateful to really love what I do and have an amazing team to help me do it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment is the lives I've seen transformed and the community we have built through Inspired Living. I'm also proud to be in the 2% of female-owned businesses that generate over a million dollars in revenue.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is the constant juggling of cash flow, team expansion, and product development. Like most entrepreneurs, I'm full of ideas! It's important to act as a CEO and make decisions by clearly identifying long-term and short-term goals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Think about what you want to be the best in the world at. How can you or your product stand out in this noisy marketplace? Become an essential for someone else.
  2. Higher great team members before you think you need them. We are often our worst bottleneck when it comes to growth. Do what you do best and outsource the rest!
  3. Commit to being visible and using video from the onset of your business. Video is the #1 way to connect and convert your ideal clients online. Consistent messaging over time is the key to growth.
