Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Irena Kay, Founder of Irena Kay Coaching, LLC., located in Frenchtown, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women in crumbling relationships fix their lives. The most important relationship is the one with yourself. Many women were taught to put everyone else first... at one point, they felt: That's not what I had envisioned for my life! But by then, many have given up and don't know how to change their circumstances.

Tell us about yourself

I know all about womanly woes... I have coached women through their most personal issues as a physician (Ob/Gyn), marriage facilitator, and relationship coach. I walked in those shoes. After years of misery, I found a way out, and I'm passionate about sharing this way with as many women as possible... so they, too, can be happy as I am... Every. Single. Day!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing the transformation from blah to bliss in my clients' many times after the first session!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Fear of failure or thinking you're not good enough. Learning that there are a lot of pieces that need to be implemented when running a business. Giving up the feeling of having to do everything yourself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't jump on every shiny object a "guru" promises. What worked for them ten years ago might no longer work for you today. Start with a solid business foundation. You only need a few things: Belief in your offer and in yourself. Something other people want and urgently need. A way to attract and connect to those people. A way to deliver your request and accept payment.
  2. Once you have a consistent income, you can start delegating to a team and add different offers.
  3. Never be too proud or stingy to think you can do everything yourself. Learn from a mentor. It's a great shortcut. Choose your coach or mentor wisely. Are they walking the talk?
