Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate Delgado, Owner of Isola, located in Boca Raton, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Isola is a skincare brand started on the island of Jamaica. From day 1, our mission has always been to provide safe, effective, and enjoyable products that make your skin feel great. Today, Isola's mission remains the same. We are passionate about understanding what makes your body look and feel great, and our focus is delivering visible results with clean skincare you can feel good about.

Isola products are simple yet effective and benefit you at all stages of your life by increasing your skin's hydration while reversing signs of aging. Our goal is for everyone to have "skin confidence!"

Our customers are predominately women; though our Tobacco + Musk Body oil has become a hit with men, several publications have recognized it as a wonderful beard oil.

Tell us about yourself

I began my journey of health and wellness while living in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I quickly learned of my husband's secret family recipe for a Body Scrub using the most natural ingredients on the island. After using it and seeing immediate results, I knew it would be a winning skincare product. Within weeks, I was selling this Body Scrub to some of the top hotels and spas on the island. My family and I relocated back to the United States, and my dream of being a female business owner came true. I launched Isola, which means island in Italian (an homage to my paternal roots), in 2012, and it has been expanding ever since with the addition of Body Oils, a Body Lotion, a Hand Cream, and a Lip Scrub.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Getting our products on national TV (Good Morning America, The View, and the Today Show) and selling out! Isola has now been featured multiple times on these shows, and thankfully, we have always had success.

Receiving such overwhelmingly positive feedback from our amazing customers who often use the words "love" and "obsessed" when describing Isola.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

No doubt...time management and organization! I'm a rather creative person, and I draw inspiration from our customers, from nature, and even from other wonderful brands. I thrive within the scope of creating, envisioning, and ultimately executing. Thankfully, there are so many available tools (and people) that can assist with time management and organization.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Hmm. 3 is tough.

  1. Be consistent.
  2. Be organized.
  3. Be grateful.
  4. Find a good work-life balance! And as a B2C brand.
  5. I have to add a 5th tip which is to try and provide spectacular customer service.
