Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jaiana Francis, Founder of Boss Babe Fitness Academy, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Boss Babe Fitness Academy guides busy women on how to confidently shape and sculpt their sexiest body with a step-by-step Boss Babe Blueprint. The signature Blueprint consistently helps women ages 25-35 eliminate emotional eating and finally love how they look and feel all year long. This results in our clients losing stubborn body fat, getting toned, and, most importantly, ditching toxic diet culture.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business back in 2019 because I have a mission to end generations of poor health amongst my family and amongst the families of women I work with. I am tired of the stigma amongst women that we have to neglect our own wants, needs, and desires in order to provide for our families, be the best in our careers, and have a fulfilling life - it's just not true, and so I'm breaking toxic thought and self-neglect patterns amongst busy women.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is starting my company in the first place. I was a CPA for 3 years prior to starting my company, and I remember wanting to create something like Boss Babe Fitness Academy but didn't have the confidence in myself to run my own business, and I was extremely fearful about leaving the comforts of a steady and predictable corporate income. 475 clients later, I am so grateful that I finally developed the courage to invest time and money into my dreams because the impact we've had has been priceless. We've helped clients get pregnant for the first time, gain confidence and leave toxic relationships, quit jobs that weren't serving them, and reverse their pre-diabetes diagnosis, and it all started with a decision to get healthy and prioritize themselves.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

My biggest challenge so far has been staying organized and piling too much on my plate. Like many entrepreneurs, the idea of growing and scaling my company is so exciting, but that often leads to me putting too much on my plate and feeling overwhelmed.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You are NOT your business, and your business is not you. When you're doing work that you're unapologetically passionate about, it can be really easy to lose your identity in your business. When your business is doing well, you're doing well. When your business is having challenges, you're taking it personally. Remember, your business is its own separate brand, identity, and entity.
  2. Boring makes billions. You are going to get to a point where you feel like your business becomes mundane, and you're going to want to seek adventure. Remember that it's the fundamentals applied consistently that will lead to a predictable and sustainable income in your business.
  3. Take time away from your business, and don't feel guilty.
