Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Janice Amirault, founder of Janice Inspiring Change - Holistic Nutrition, located in Kentville, NS, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women who are overweight eliminate the self-sabotaging habits that are keeping them stuck there so they can begin to lose weight and keep it off long-term. Together, we create a lifestyle plan that sets the client up to start seeing results right away.

Clients have a step-by-step framework that helps them work through the underlying reasons for their self-sabotaging behavior. With one-on-one coaching support, my clients successfully move toward achieving and maintaining their goals.

Tell us about yourself

My interest in health and wellness stems from my own personal journey: one that took me from debilitating illness to vibrant health. Diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, unable to work, and labeled as lazy by my specialist, I decided to explore a natural approach to my illness. I changed my lifestyle and became living proof that good health returns when the body receives the nutrients it's meant to have.

I was literally saved by nutrition. It was then that I discovered my true passion for helping others achieve ideal health. I am a Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant and a Certified Holistic Cancer Coach. I provide research-based education on preventing, coping with, and fighting disease through diet and lifestyle choices. I empower my clients to take charge of their own health.

I write a monthly health article for the Valley Wire, a Saltwire Network publication. The first quarter of 2022 has been an exciting one for me. I was recently nominated for the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) Clinical Excellence Award as well as the 30th annual RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards. I live in Kentville, Nova Scotia, with my husband and five rescued pets I welcomed into our villa while living in Doha, Qatar.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment in the six years I've been in business is that I've been able to reach and change the lives of women all over the world. I started my business while living in Qatar, which allowed me to work with and learn from international women.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a solopreneur, I miss having work colleagues. It would be nice to have like-minded people around to ask questions, share experiences and bounce ideas off of.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Decide who you want to work with specifically (niche down)…you can change your mind later down the road.
  2. Don't try to do everything yourself. Use your resources and ask for help rather than wasting time and energy trying to figure everything out on your own.
  3. Hire someone to help you with your messaging, as it's important to have the right content to attract your target audience.
