Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jaymie Tarshis, Owner of Jaymie Tarshis Consulting, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a consulting company where I teach business owners how to run Facebook and Instagram ads to grow their businesses. My clients are typically coaches, consultants, course creators, or experts that want to serve more people through their programs or services, but they're struggling to grow beyond organic growth or from solely relying on referrals. That's where I come in and teach them how to leverage the power of funnels and ads to generate more leads and sales through a repeatable, automated system.

Tell us about yourself

I've been working in the world of marketing and advertising for almost 10 years now. My first job after college was as a marketing director at a large mortgage and real estate firm when I first discovered my passion for this industry. I worked there for a couple of years, soaking up all of the knowledge and skills that I could before ultimately deciding to leave to start my own business. While the journey hasn't always been easy, what motivates me to keep going down this path is seeing the results that my clients are able to achieve from our work together. Whether it's helping a parenting coach, make her first $5k on her course launch or helping a photographer book $20k in new clients, getting to see the direct revenue and ROI that my clients are able to generate from our work is extremely motivating and meaningful to me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building a successful and sustainable business that provides me with true financial freedom and time freedom. I will never take for granted being able to randomly take off a Tuesday afternoon to have lunch with a friend or spend time with family.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Managing your mindset. As a business owner, you're constantly facing new challenges, and the ups and downs are inevitable, but learning to stay positive and focused on the right things is key to pushing through the tough times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Niche down and become known for one thing. It's a lot easier for people to discover you and refer new business to you when it's clear and easy to explain what you do.
  2. Narrow your focus. Find one main channel or platform to get customers for your business and go all in on that until you've mastered it, versus spreading yourself trying to do all the things.
  3. Seek out support. When you're first growing a business, it can be tough to invest in any outside support, but the fastest way to get where you want to go is to pay or offer to help someone to show you who's already been down that path.
