What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business specializes in fine art, specifically bright, colorful, and loose acrylic paintings on canvas. The larger the canvas, the better. I cater to a wide range of clients, including individuals, couples, families, and businesses who appreciate unique works of art.
Tell us about yourself
I came into painting quite by accident in 2011. I met a woman who was an artist, and she invited me to a "paint night" in her studio. I didn't really like painting, but I liked her, so I went back the next time. Eventually, painting took over my life, and I couldn't imagine not being an artist. I love to create. I love to experiment with colors and shapes, and abstractions of everyday things.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It's hard to choose just one, but I would say the year that the President of Bentley University discovered my work bought several huge paintings from me, including commissions, for her private collection as well as for the university.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Bookkeeping and marketing. For sure.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Do something you love. Find good mentors and plan on some long days of very hard work.
