Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Nierenberg, Founder of End of Life Matters, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help clients to prepare for the end of life by getting all their decisions made and details handled.

Tell us about yourself

After being with my father during his end of life, I wrote a memoir about that experience. It's called "Daddy, This Is It. Being with My Dying Dad." I then took the Before I Go Solutions facilitator's training, learning how to help clients make informed decisions, document those, and share them appropriately. I also help train other facilitators in this Before I Go method of thoughtful and comprehensive preparation.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've now published a total of three books in this end-of-life genre. My two recent ones are anthologies of many and varied perspectives on death, dying, and the end of life: "Journey's End, Book 1: Heartfelt Stories of Death and Dying," and "Journey's End, Book 2: An Educational Guide to Death and Dying." These two books are essential guidebooks for professionals or lay people who care for the dying.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging things is reaching all the customers who want my services.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Use professional tips and services to help set up and grow your business.
  2. Make connections with others who work in your field of endeavor.
  3. Structure your service offerings around your prospective client's needs and wants.
