Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dana Lagomarsino, founder of Just Lago, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Just Lago is a collective of bridal hair, makeup artists, massage therapists, and yoga instructors who use eco-conscious products for natural glam alongside mindful and holistic practices to awaken and support our chillzillas for their wedding or elopement.

Tell us about yourself

Just Lago started when I met a fellow cosmetologist in massage school. Her mom was a custom bridal dress designer, and one of her clients was looking for natural glam on her wedding day. We spent all weekend with them and had the best of time! We looked at each other afterward and saw the glimmer of joy in each other's eyes. And just like that (for all of you fellow Sex in the City fans out there), Just Lago began.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

With no initial capital, I got creative, building my business from scratch. Slowly, I began acquiring education on entrepreneurship while purchasing affordable supplies. Working full time, I drove all over to meet brides, worked on styled shoots, and connected with people in the industry. Long days and nights, but realistic before launching into full entrepreneurship. With all of the hard work over the past five years, we've gone from nine weddings in that first year to a successful, six-figure business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Entrepreneurship is all about facing your fears and moving past doubt. There are highs, lows, and all the work in between. Being resilient and persistent is one of the hardest things I believe comes with being a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find small ways to face your fears to get stronger and face bigger ones in the future (and in your business).
  2. Invest in your health and education.
  3. Live a minimalistic lifestyle so you can focus your time and money on/into your business.
