Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Karen Cerezo, a Women's Health Coach & Personal Trainer, based in Round Rock, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a personal trainer and health coach for midlife women looking to stay healthy and fit during perimenopause and beyond.

Tell us about yourself

I started as an accountability coach in 2015 and decided to become a certified personal trainer. From there, I ran small group coaching sessions and began specializing in women's health, specifically women over 45. I became a certified health coach in 2020 and am also certified in sports nutrition.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It is helping so many women navigate this new season that would otherwise be lost, confused, feeling overwhelmed, and alone. Perimenopause and menopause and so many other mental, physical, sexual, and emotional issues that go along with midlife are rarely talked about openly. My goal is to open the dialog, empowering women to go into this season with knowledge and support.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Standing out in all the noise that social media creates. So many people call themselves a coach with little to no knowledge and training but can post, and so people follow. There is so much conflicting information about health and fitness after 50, so often, women are just throwing darts in the dark and hoping something works.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It'll never be a perfect time, so just do it.
  2. Perfection is not what people really want - they want honesty and authenticity - BE YOU!
  3. Stay the course, believe in yourself and your ability to do this, but get a mentor to help guide you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being a woman is hard, midlife is hard, and menopause can be hard, but we're capable of doing hard things. I want women to know that this time in their life is their caterpillar to butterfly moment! Embrace it and allow yourself to live as you were meant to be. Remember, you were made for more!
