Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Megan Rader, Owner of Kula Yoga Grand Rapids, located in Grand Rapids, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I opened Kula Yoga in Grand Rapids in 2016. We started on Division, then moved to Wealthy. Our second space on the west side is coming in early summer. I serve anyone in and around the Grand Rapids area who is interested in yoga and wellness.

Tell us about yourself

I'm motivated by my partner, Elliott, my two kids, my team of teachers, and our student community. Each person plays a significant role in my life, and I wouldn't be the person I am without each of them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm pretty proud of my studio manager, Danea, and me for keeping the studio afloat during Covid. We were closed for ten months, so we really had to get creative when it came to offering classes for our community.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a small business owner can be lonely. You're experiencing things on your own, no matter the level of others' involvement in your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on your mission, goals, and values.
  2. Set firm business boundaries--your customer is not always right.
  3. Try to make an impact on your community.

Where can people find you and your business?
