Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jake Oslin, founder of Loony Clothing, located in Saint Francis, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Loony Clothing is an outdoor lifestyle company. The idea of Loony Clothing stemmed from a love of the outdoors and the idea of sharing that passion with others in a fun, unique way. We are based in the Midwest, so most of our designs/products pay homage to it. Our base customers are people who appreciate the outdoors and like to live the "loony" lifestyle.

Tell us about yourself

I started Loony Clothing because I wanted to combine my passion for the outdoors and fashion into a brand that others could resonate with. My goal is to create products/content that people enjoy and also get new people interested in the outdoors.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a small business owner and just starting out, I really do celebrate every sale I get. It's a wild feeling that a stranger likes our company and designs enough to spend their hard-earned money on our products, even when we don't have brand recognition yet. Shipping orders to customers in over 30+ states in the first couple of years of business is something I would never have imagined.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think one of the hardest things is being motivated after something doesn't go how you planned.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be discouraged by failure. Things are going to go wrong, especially when you are just starting out. Learn from the mistakes and make adjustments along the way.
  2. Be patient. It's hard to grow a business and get new customers.
  3. Be yourself and original. Customers are going to buy from you because they like what you stand for and how you do business.
