Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lorrie Pearson, CEO of Lorrie Pearson Makeup Artist, located in Boston, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I love using makeup to enhance the skin, creating beautiful natural makeup looks. As a makeup artist, I specialize in beauty and work on print and commercial projects.

Tell us about yourself

After spending time working behind the cosmetics counter, I wanted to expand and experience more as a makeup artist; that was the beginning of my freelance career. What excites me is every project is different. I'm a part of a production team working to bring a concept to life. I love being a part of the experiences.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to develop other makeup artists and help them launch their careers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is you must be consistently planning for growth. As a small service business, repeat bookings and future clients are key to my success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your why, so when things are challenging, your passion is what keeps you going.
  2. Love what you do. It will keep you excited, even when your days are long.
  3. Exceed your client's expectations, always.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Building a business is work. If you're creative, you have to learn about business, not only your craft. Learn to prioritize and delegate. Most of all, do something you love.
