What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder of LumenKind, an Austin, TX-based wellness brand that inspires mindfulness and activates intentions with simple and fun products. Our unique approach integrates a powerful personal growth system with thoughtfully-designed, tiny temporary tattoos. For those on a journey to rise above and shine their brightest, our Brighter Being System is an adaptive framework that includes nine perspectives. Each theme offers science-based mindfulness guidance, suggested intentions, inspiring stories from others on the journey, and wearable reminders to help you stay focused on what matters most - 'Mindful Marks.'

LumenKind came into being during the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017 with the mission to bring more light into the world one moment, one breath at a time.

A couple of years prior, I hit a point in my life where I felt completely drained and decided to try something new. I made a personal commitment to "listen deeply and receive." It was a profoundly transformational experience. In addition to being amazed by the power of setting intentions, I also realized just how difficult it could be to remember and prioritize what matters most throughout the day. As a result, LumenKind's Mindful Marks were created to help people shine their brightest, rise above distractions, and navigate life with breath, awareness, and ease. LumenKind is founded on the belief that there is a brilliant power inside every human, as well as an opportunity to enjoy a more meaningful and peaceful life through mindfulness. Mindful Marks are both wearable reminders for intention-setting, as well as a simple and easy way to stay connected to others also on the path to living with greater intention.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

On August 21, 2022, LumenKind celebrated five years since its inception. During this time, our mission-driven brand has shipped products to all 50 States and 20 countries – totaling more than 500K+ Mindful Marks shared and inviting millions of healing, mindful breaths.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Entrepreneurs have a gift for seeing new ways to make things better and taking action. However, this ability to see opportunity can also be one of the most challenging traits to harness. This is because the potential pathways for creating and growing a business can feel infinite. So, choosing and prioritizing where, when, and how to invest energy can be one of the most significant challenges for a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. START WITHIN. Starting and growing a business can be a full-contact body, mind, and spiritual endeavor. Your well-being and self-care habits are crucial to maintaining your health and working toward your business vision. Ensure they're solid before you dive in!
  2. CHOOSE TINY STEPS. At whatever stage you are considering – choose the next small step and act. Longer-range, traditional business plans have their place, but don't miss out on the wealth of insight sending up test balloons can offer. For example, have conversations with potential customers or start with a small batch. If you're still seeking an idea? Volunteer or signup to try new experiences that interest you.
  3. BE PRESENT. There will always be somewhere else to be and a new desired destination. So, make sure you pause to reflect with a deep breath and really connect with where you are in the present.
