What's your business, and who are your customers?

DermaMed Solutions provides spa equipment, skincare, and wellness services. We offer many types of spa equipment products and services, including microdermabrasion machines, hair removal machines, and aesthetic imaging. We also offer professional skincare products that feature potent antioxidants with active ingredients working together to optimize skincare results without irritation obtained from botanicals, blended to create highly effective anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and protective benefits.

Tell us about yourself

I am the President at DermaMed Solutions based in Media, Pennsylvania. I have been working as a President at DermaMed Solutions for 12 years. Prior to DermaMed, I worked for DSM, the largest producer of vitamin ingredients in the world. I worked as the Global Product Manager of Personalized Nutrition. What I liked about the beauty industry was that you could work on getting someone healthier and work on their beauty. We believe that beauty comes from taking care of your insides and outside.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been surviving COVID. This is a testament to my employees rather than to me. It was not an easy time. We are in a business where people don't want to be touched. This dramatically reduced our business. We learned new ways of selling and focused on keeping the company afloat.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is listening to people telling you you can not accomplish something. You have to decide if they are giving you good advice. People often give you advice because they think something is too difficult. If things were not difficult, everyone would be a business owner. You need to decide if the stress is for you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure your family is with you in this endeavor.
  2. Have enough money to make mistakes.
  3. Make sure you have a way to recharge when things are going bad. As owners, we tend to focus on our business solely. We need to be able to have mental breaks so that we can make good decisions.
