Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary Ann Dover, Founder of Dover Health Coaching, located in Flushing, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I offer Functional Nutrition and Medicine for menopausal women.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up, I was a very sick child and spent many years in and out of the hospital. All of my sicknesses were caused by nutrition, the environment, or through secondhand smoke. I decided to be a nurse to promote health and wellness in the community where I lived, and I have worked as a registered nurse for decades with sick people who never seemed to get well. Over the years, I also became not well, battling to lose and regain 50 pounds over a 30-year time span. I had a wake-up call and realized if I didn’t do something different from the conventional western medicine model, then I too would become a sick person revolving in and out of the hospital bed. I decided to become a Functional Nutrition and Medicine practitioner not just to change my health but also to change the health of many others who are struggling. I put together a program called The Inner Game of Weight-loss and Wellness. The program is a metabolic reset from the inside out. I also have a program for menopausal women to rebalance weight, hormones, and brain fog.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having the pleasure of being a trusted guide for so many people who couldn’t return to health through the western medicine model alone. When I blended Western medicine with Functional medicine, I realized I had the perfect fit for a wellness model that can serve people so much better.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, being a solo business owner online only.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, save yourself a ton of money and overwhelm yourself by investing in the right business coach from the very start. The good ones are very pricy but well worth their services. Next, I would not strive to be perfect but just take consistent action in your business daily. Finally, I would get control of time constraints and include self-care for family and fun.
