Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maxime Lagacé, owner of Wisdom Quotes, located in Sainte-Julie, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My website is called WisdomQuotes. What do we do? It's the place for people who want wisdom, quotes, and inner peace.

Tell us about yourself

I started collecting quotes back in 2004 after my girlfriend died in a car accident. Then, I started to read the best books and quotes and listen to podcasts and videos to transform my life. After having collected thousands of quotes, I decided to share the best ones with the world on my website. What motivates me each day? Sharing these great quotes and helping others go from confused to peaceful in a matter of weeks.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to keep going, despite the setbacks I've encountered throughout the years. I was able to build a newsletter with 5000 followers and reach millions of people through's traffic.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is the uncertainty of the market. Having a website and relying on Google for traffic is a sure way to feel a bit anxious. But once you're used to this uncertainty, it doesn't affect you anymore. :)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know yourself. Know what you stand for. Know what you are against. The clearer you are about who you are (as a business), the easier it will be to make decisions down the road.
  2. Learn about positioning and branding. Read the book "The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing". Think of one word you want people to remember you for. Then, everything you do should gravitate toward that word. The clearer your position in the market, the more your customers will know what to expect from you.
  3. Know your customers. Talk to them. Ask them questions. Ask them what they are struggling with. Ask them what would be the ideal solution for them. The more you know your customers, the easier it will be to find the right solution for them. Most importantly, your impact and profit will skyrocket.
  4. Overdeliver. Surprise people. "WOW" your customers. Make them feel special. Make them happy doing business with you. If you don't delight them, your competitor will.
