What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a professional consultant, speaker, and author encouraging people how to get UNSTUCK FROM THE YUCK. I encourage people to have financial accountability in order to enjoy health and wealth and create increased self-esteem.

Tell us about yourself

Twenty years ago, I suffered a TBI due to being deaf. I didn't hear a fellow ice skater about to skate into me. The collision was so impactful that my hearing aids bounced to opposite ends of the ice rink. I suffered a 4.5" skull fracture and had five hemorrhaging sites in my brain. This caused me to lose sight, taste, and smell. Thankfully, some of my sights returned, but the taste and smell never came back completely. This experience caused me to realize that self-care would be THE most important thing to my ongoing healing and survival. I survived, against all odds, without brain surgery by using positive affirmations as well as considering the accident a blessing. Out of this, I developed the "bless and release method" that teaches people that whenever you have a life-challenging event, it could be a blessing in disguise to teach you about yourself. The "bless and release" method teaches others how to take these events and move forward with their lives, changing one thought at a time. In recent challenging times, I also noted that financial challenges seem to impact people's health and wellness. I consult with people using the QuickBooks software to assist them in managing their finances more efficiently in order to enjoy better health and wealth. (Stress will never serve us well.)

Helping others through their own life challenges brings me much joy. Having been through multiple life challenges through my life and always landing on the better side of things (through daily practices and choices) is encouraging to those that I consult and work with.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was getting my self-published book, GOING GREEN WITH YOUR SELF-ESTEEM, out into the world. I've sold about 500 copies on my own. I've been honored to build a speaking business and have talked at many events as a Keynote and breakout speaker. To name a few events, I've had the pleasure of speaking at our Juuva International Conference, Nerium International, Leeza's Place, Rotary Club, LEADS Club International, Chicago Green Festival, IAAP, Rotary Clubs, and Catapult Learning Center. I was featured in a Reader's Digest Article in May 2005 discussing life without smell. I am also a Toastmaster's 2nd & 3rd place Area/Divisional Contest winner.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things I find is that there are so many different ways to promote your business. With various social media platforms to build a viable audience, as well as getting out to the network to meet new people, it always takes a lot of time and careful time management to increase business opportunities.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research and interview others that are doing what you'd like to do.
  2. Don't be afraid to hire other experts to assist you with building and marketing your brand. You can't be an expert in EVERY thing. Lose "control" and seek others with more expertise than you and invest with them.
  3. Nobody wants to be around someone that's trying to sell them something. Take the time to build relationships so that you create a positive environment around your business. Be kind and courteous to everyone you meet because you just don't know who they'll know and can introduce you to.
