Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kyle Ligon, Owner of MovementLink.FIT, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

MovementLink.FIT is an online and in-person community centered around functional exercise, health, and wellness. We prioritize getting results that balance performance, aesthetics, joint and tissue health, and overall health and wellness. We also understand that creating amazing lives now should also support living amazing lives when we are 60+ years old. Everything we do scales to feeling and looking good now and years into the future.

Tell us about yourself

The gym and fitness program I wanted to follow did not exist. I have learned so much in the past 15+ years I've been in the fitness industry, and new science and techniques continue to come out. I wanted to create a gym that leveraged methods that have worked so well for me personally and my clients while having the flexibility to upgrade how we do things as new and better information arises. Additionally, I didn't care for the vibe in most gyms that is ego-based. I wanted to create a place where instead of people thinking that working out made them cool, they understood that exercise is simply a vital part of living amazing lives and that it opens up opportunities to do cool things. I wanted to be surrounded by people from all walks of life who are just trying to improve themselves and do amazing things, and that's what I have created.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am most proud of the atmosphere and culture of MovementLink. There are amazing people doing amazing things.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest thing is being really good at only a few things but having to take care of hundreds of things that I either need to learn or just don't like to do. Specifically for me, running a gym and coaching are my favorite, but just a small part of my daily tasks.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Define your core values. Mine are: "It's My Life", "Growth Mindset", and "Every Person Every Time." For each of these, I have paragraphs written about what they mean to me. I try to make every decision based on these, and when I mess up, I reflect back on them to see where I went wrong. For me, these are my keys to success, possibly the most significant being a lifelong learner in all aspects of my life.
