Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Durst, CEO of OOMPH, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

OOMPH Fitness is an at-home workout app. We know that home workouts can be boring and lonely, so we've made it our mission to change that. We help our clients have fun with their home workouts, so they don't feel like they're a chore anymore!

Tell us about yourself

Fitness changed my life. Growing up, I got into a lot of unhealthy habits, which slowly started taking over my life. All that changed when I stepped into a Muay Thai gym for the first time. Martial arts and working out taught me discipline, ethics, hard work, and perseverance. I wanted to share that gift with the rest of the world, so I quit my cushy 9-5 job in advertising to make OOMPH a reality.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing our client's transformations in their health, weight, mindset, and fitness is very rewarding. Multiple app features in the Apple App Store this year (2022) have been very exciting as well.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Running a startup is like getting strapped to a rocketship and holding on for dear life. Every day presents new challenges, setbacks, and struggles. However, having a deeper purpose (our client's success) drives us forward.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Never give up. Never give up. Never give up. When starting a business, the entire world will tell you it's not a good idea. When adversity hits, most people advise you to throw in the towel. Leaders that win simply have a never give up attitude and courage through the darkest storms.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

When you start a business, things will take 10 times longer than you expect them to take. There are high highs and low lows. Know that anything worth starting is going to take time, effort, and consistent action. You got this!
