Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lizette Warner, CEO of Optimum Vobis, located in Arlington, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Optimum Vobis is a leadership development organization helping professionals lean into leadership. I help my clients eliminate doubt and fear to lean into their authentic leadership. My clients are emerging professionals to elite professionals.

Tell us about yourself

I found I loved helping people be their authentic best and that I was good at it. In working with so many people, I discovered a secret. Each person I worked with was dealing with roughly the same problem, wanting to feel powerful while being powerless, wanting to feel calm and balanced amid uncertainty, and wishing for confidence while feeling fear or doubt. Each day I love helping my clients eliminate fear and doubt by helping them find their secret weapon against fear and doubt.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

While running my business and finding clients, I managed to write a book: Power, Poise, and Presence: A New Approach to Authentic Leadership. I also started leadership teams for individuals struggling on their own to advance their careers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being alone. You have very few direct peers who can help you. I have found that coaching in this circumstance has been my most valuable asset. I have leadership teams I am a part of that bring me great aid and assistance in my daily decisions. I also have an executive coach I meet with periodically. I believe these two practices have helped make me nimble, resilient, and willing to take the risks I need to advance my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don’t do it all. Get Help.
  2. Be willing to move forward without perfection. You can have perfect and missed opportunities.
  3. Take time to pause and reflect on your business's direction and pivot if needed.
