Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katherine Katsenis, Founder of Panos Photography, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Maternity and newborn portrait photography. My customers are women aged 25 to 45 who want customized fine art portraits made of their new family.

Tell us about yourself

I was a special education teacher for many years. And during that time, I gained an appreciation for motherhood and all its sacrifices and rewards. My motivation lies in giving moms legacy images that celebrate the deep relationship between them and their child(ren).

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Becoming a certified professional photographer is my biggest accomplishment to date.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There is an emotional roller coaster that is hard not only on you but on your family.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never quit. Once you do, you are out of the game for sure.
  2. People talk about life/work balance. I disagree. As an entrepreneur, your life is your work. They become one and the same.
  3. Don't ask your friends/family to refer or help you. Build your own tribe.
